East along Station Road past the original shops, across Norton Way South and up Birds Hill this was the view until about 2006.

Up until then the only visible sign of the industrial area of Letchworth from the Town Center was the roof of a few factories and the smoke free chimneys of the gas fired power station in Works Road.

These chimneys were a landmark that could be seen for miles around, but they were only really prominent  in the Town Centre from this viewpoint and can't be seen at all from most of the Town.

In about 2006 the factories in front of the chimneys were demolished the occupants moving to Avenue One and a new development of flats (see more here) were constructed, the two chimneys were slowly reduced a few feet at a time until they were a fraction of the original height,

then they were flattened and the site cleared for redevelopment.

The original views were down Station Road

and from exactly the same spot,  South along Broadwalk a pleasant tree lined avenue.

Since 2001 this view bas been replaced with a completely open path and flower beds, its probably safer in some ways but in my opinion its not as nice. Its certainly not worth a photo.
